World Series Hurdle Trends Analysis

On to day three when the World Series Hurdle is the highlight. This is the big staying hurdle which attracts the same runners as the World Hurdle at Cheltenham and Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree. So, let’s look at the trends.

Common Trends


  1. 10 of the last 10 winners ran in the last 50 days
  2. 9 of the last 10 winners won or placed last time out
  3.  9 of the last 10 winners had not run in the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham festival
  4. 8 of the last 10 winners had won at Punchestown
  5. 8 of the last 10 winners had won or placed in a grade 1
    •  6 of the last 10 winners had won a grade 1
  6. 7 of the last 10 winners had won over 3m+

Further Notes


  • French and British-bred runners have done better than Irish-bred (6 of the last 10 winners despite 63% of the runners having been Irish-bred
  • Mares have gained 6 of the last 9 races with 6 wins and 4 places from 13 runners. 4 of these wins were Quevega, but it’s still an impressive record without the wonder-mare.

Now, we’ll look at how this year’s contenders do against the trends:

So, best on these trends is Dedigout, followed by Jezki, Lots Of Memories and Thousand Stars. The worst are Zabana and I Shot The Sheriff.
